This comprehensive 5 week course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings – working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

After the class, the students will be able to participate in the PTCB national certification examination.  The course is completed in 5 weeks.  Students are prepared for the national exam through review and practice testing. This course is a comprehensive guide to study skills, time management, test taking strategies and a complete guide to the PTCB Exam.  Special emphasis is on practice exams and recommendations for improvement.  This is a hands-on experience for the trainee to work under a registered pharmacist in a pharmacy.

Course content: includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement.
